Introduction
Jalalabad Gas transmission and Distribution System Limited supplies gas to the customer in its franchise area consisting of Sylhet division. After the completion of Habiganj Tea Valley Project under the management of Petrobangla in 1977, the activities of Sylhet Town gas supply Project was taken in order to meet the growing gas demand for Sylhet town and its adjoining areas. Merging these two projects, gas supply was formally introduced in Sylhet town in 1978. With the implementation of Sylhet Tea Estate Gas Supply Project-1, Sunamgonj Town Gas Supply Project, Kailashtilla-Chhatak Pipeline Project and Chhatak Town Gas Supply Project, the gas supply network was expanded in this region. Jalalabad Gas Transmission and Distribution System Limited was formed on December 1, 1986 under the company Act.
The objective was to develop the socio-economic condition of the people of Sylhet region.
Present Status
By the end of December 2008, the company had constructed a total of 2890.35 km of transmission, distribution and service lines and a customer base of 1,21,252. Gas sales by JGTDSL during the year 2007-08 totaled about 31.24 bcf and the major consumer being power plants accounted for 14.53 bcf.
