Introduction


Pashchimanchal Gas Company Limited is a corporate body registered under Company Act on 29 th November, 1999.This is the fourth and newest gas marketing company under Petrobangla, set-up with the objectives to distribute gas from the gas fields at Eastern Zone of Bangladesh with economic use within the franchise area of the company comprising the administrative division of Rajshahi or any such area as may be decided upon by the Government/Petrobangla.The Company commences its business since 23rd April 2000 and now steps in its 10th year of operation.

Functions

  1. To distribute gas to set up Power plant, fertilizer and gas based industry in the north-west region of the country.
  2. To supply gas to the household level in this region.
  3. To maintain natural gas pipeline and related facilities.

Present Status


By the end of December 2008, the Company constructed a network of 877.76 km pipeline which include 84.75 km distribution and 793.01 km feeder main & service line. At the end of the fiscal year 2007-08, the Company had a customer base of 38,607 numbers which increased to 43,414 by the end of December 2008. Gas marketed by PGCL amounted to 21.67 bcf in 2007-2008 while it was 17.60 bcf in the previous year. The sales performance has declined due to the maintenance of GTCL main gas transmission pipeline. Most of the gas marketed by PGCL is consumed by three power plants.
As part of expansion of company activity as well as expanding gas network in north-west region of the country, PGCL has established distribution networks at Sirajganj, Pabna, Bera, Sathia, Ishwardi and Bogra.
