Projects under implementation and to be implemented by Directorates, Offices
and Corporations under Energy and Mineral Resources Division

To achieve the sector’s goals/targets, Energy and Mineral Resources Division has been implementing its regular ADP and Self financing fiscal projects. To intensify the target oriented projects, which deserve to be immediate attention for crisis management and to address them with due priority, the Short Term, Mid Term & Long Term planning activities have been taken up.
Under the Short Term (2009-10) program, 02 (two) exploration wells, 02 (two) appraisal wells and 05 (five) work over wells have been considered to add about 188 mmcfd gas to the network.
Similarly under Mid Term (2009-13, June) program, 27 (twenty seven) development wells, 04 (four) work over and 05 (five) exploration wells (including LNG of 500 mmcfd by 2012) have been considered with the target of adding about 1650 mmcfd gas to the network.
Under Long term (2009-15) program, 02 (two) appraisal wells and some new exploration wells in the various blocks including the outcome of the Bangladesh Offshore Bidding Round 2008 have been considered with the target of adding 385 mmcfd gas to the network.
Considering the immediate gas production augmentation, government has also approved in principle a Fast Track Program to be implemented during January 2010 - June 2012 to add about 135 mmcfd gas to the network through drilling of 02 (two) development wells and 01 (one) work over wells. Under the same project, seismic surveys, processing and interpretation will also be conducted/done by BAPEX in Blocks 3,6,8 and 11 so that some new wells could be discovered to enhance the proven reserves by national company.
Moreover, existing PSCs are also active to enhance their reserves through extensive 3-D seismic following development drilling in their respective Blocks.
As oil and gas exploration, exploitation, transmission and distribution concern huge investment, it needs support from development partners and public-private, public-public and private-private partnership for implementation of all the projects. Its exploration also bears risks by nature. Presently gas network expansion is under implementation by an ADB funded “Gas Transmission and Development Project (GTDP)”. Under this project construction of total 356 km gas transmission pipeline is being implemented to transport gas to the western & south-western region of the country. These pipelines are; (i) Monohordi-Dhanua, Elenga-East Bank of Jamuna gas transmission pipeline (51 km) (ii) West Bank of Jamuna Bridge-Nalka, Hatikumrul-Ishwardi-Bheramara gas transmission pipeline (87 km), (iii) Bonpara-Rajshahi gas transmission pipeline (53 km) (iv) Bheramara-Khulna gas transmission pipeline (165 km). Some other important projects are being implemented under GTDP such as -Appraisal of gas fields (3-D seismic) such as Titas, Bakhrabad, Sylhet, Kailashtila & Rashidpur, Gas distribution network in Rajshahi city & its adjoining areas, System loss reduction of TGTDCL and Upgradation of Data Center of BAPEX. Installation of compressor stations at Muchai, Elenga and Ashuganj has been considered under GTDP project also. Besides, to supply gas to Siddhirganj Peaking Power Plant, Bakhrabad-Siddhirganj gas transmission pipeline is being implemented by World Bank financing.
