Sylhet Gas Fields Limited (SGFL)

Introduction


Sylhet Gas Fields Limited (SGFL), the second largest gas producer in the country, is the successor of Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL), which discovered the first gas field of the Country at Haripur in Sylhet in 1955. In 1960, commercial production of gas was commenced for the first time in the country by supplying about 4 million cubic feet of gas per day to Chatak Cement Factory. Now it is a company of Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Corporation (PETROBANGLA) under the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources .This Company was incorporated on 8th May, 1982. On 23rd December 1986, the long cherished dream of the country came true with the first Oil found in Well No. 7 at Sylhet (Haripur) Field.

Functions

  1. To produce oil and gas.
  2. To process condensate and produce petrol, diesel and kerosene.
  3. To supply the produced petrol, diesel and kerosene to BPC and Oil marketing companies.
  4. To drill new development well, set up MSTE plant and to do remedial work/work over of old wells.

Present Status


The company currently operates Haripur, Kailashtila, Rashidpur and Beanibazar gas fields. Of which 15 wells are producing on an average of 168.5 mmcfd of gas per day. This gas is being supplied to different marketing companies i.e Titas Gas Transmission & Distribution Co. Ltd. (TGTDCL), Jalalabad Gas Transmission and Distribution System Limited (JGTDSL) and Bakhrabad Gas Systems Limited (BGSL).
The Company is implementing a number of development projects i.e. installation of 2nd MSTE plant at Kailashtila, installation of a 31250 bbl/day capacity condensate fractionation plant at Rashidpur Gas Field, a 3-D seismic survey (KTL, Haripur and Rashidpur gas fields) and a reservoir management study is being implemented by Petrobangla's Reservoir Study Cell.
During the financial year 2007-2008, SGFL produced a total of 61.5 bcf gas.
