Introduction


Titas Gas T & D Co. Ltd. (TGTDCL) was formed in November 1964 as a joint Stock Company (Under the Company’s Act 1913) of the central Government of Pakistan on the one hand and Pakistan Shell Oil Company on the other, with a view to transmitting and distributing natural gas with a franchise area extending over the east of the Jamuna-Padma river system, excluding the Sylhet and Chittagong divisions, but including Brahmanbaria from the discovered gas field called “Titas” located on the bank of the River Titas, within the close vicinity of the present Brahmanbaria district of Bangladesh.
In December 1971, after nine months of liberation war, Bangladesh emerged in the world map as a new independent state with the same geographical boundary of the then East Pakistan. In March 26, 1972 Govt. formed “Bangladesh Oil, Gas & Mineral Corporation (BOGMC) under the Presidential Executive Order and Titas Gas T&D Co. Ltd. became an enterprise of BOGMC. TGTDCL was placed under the administrative control of Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources along with Petrobangla.

Present Status


By the end of June 2008, the company had, under its operation, a network of 10889.76 km pipeline including 613.1 km transmission, 571.02 km distribution and the rests are feeder mains and service line which further expanded to a total of 11140.37 km pipe line at the end of December 2008. At the end of December 2008, TGTDCL had a customer base of 13,98,551.
Among the bulk customers of TGTDCL, there are 28 power and 4 fertilizer plants. During 2007-2008 financial year, TGTDCL sold 432.40 bcf gas to its customers of which power and fertilizer plants consumed 180.74 bcf and 38.93 bcf respectively.
Among the four gas marketing, companies the market share of business of TGTDCL is 70 % of which Power, Fertilizer, Industrial, Commercial, Domestic and Seasonal are 48.20 %, 18.97 %, 20.28 %, 1.04 %, 11.56 % and 0.13 % respectively.
